We are a small technical team. That means responsibility arrives early and the work you do is visible in the result rather than buried in a larger programme.
Working here
The job moves between the laboratory and the factory floor
Part of the work happens at a test machine and part of it happens at a customer's plant. You see what your formulation does when it meets a real process, which is a feedback loop that most research roles do not offer.
Because the team is small, an engineer here takes technical ownership of a project and talks to the customer directly rather than working through someone else. That suits some people and not others, and it is worth knowing which you are before applying.
Real project ownership rather than a supporting role on someone else's work
Training and conference budget agreed annually
Flexible hours outside the days that require laboratory presence
Support for postgraduate study where the subject overlaps with our work
Open applicationsWe read speculative applications from engineers and researchers even when nothing specific is advertised.
Roles
The kind of people we look for
Current vacancies are listed on our LinkedIn page. The profiles below describe the roles that come up here, so you can judge whether a speculative application is worth sending.
Polymer development engineer
Formulation and characterisation work, with the ability to design an experiment rather than run one variable at a time. Background in chemistry, polymer science, materials or chemical engineering, and practical experience with thermoplastic or elastomer compounding.
Process engineer
Optimisation of extrusion and injection processes on customer sites, including yield and scrap analysis. Requires comfort with statistical process control, root cause investigation and regular travel.
Laboratory technician
Sample preparation, routine testing and keeping the laboratory record system in order. Attention to documentation and to safety procedure matters more here than years of experience.
Interns
Paid summer placements for third and fourth year engineering students, working on a defined task within a live project rather than shadowing.
Send your CV with a short note about what interests you to info@noveraarge.com. Applications are held for twelve months and then deleted, in line with data protection law.
Process
From application to start date
01
Application
A CV and a short note. A formal cover letter is not required, but telling us why this work interests you makes a difference.
02
Technical conversation
About an hour, built around a project you have worked on before rather than a list of questions.
03
Case study
A simplified version of a real problem. You work on it in your own time and present it. The time limit is flexible.
04
Offer
A visit to meet the team and see the laboratory, then a written offer. Everyone gets feedback, whatever the outcome.
Tell us what you are trying to solve
Whether you have a full development brief or a single production problem, the starting point is the same. Send us the application conditions and we will tell you what is realistic.
